Long Winded Changes: Modification for Civilization 3
Created by Plutarck, aemuli@yahoo.com

If you would like to discuss this mod please use the civfanatic.com or
Apolyton.net Civilization3 forums. Use the same thread that you got the link to
this package from.

The website for this mod is currently available at
http://207.191.20.18/civ3/index.html - courtesy of the grand
Kolyana.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The Civilopedia has not been altered as the changes made in this
mod are not considered "Final" and are still very much open for debate. The
Civilopedia catches some things automagically, but the descriptions and History
still need altering.

WARNING/IMPORTANT NOTE 2: This mod is considered to be in the late beta stage of
testing, and has been released to get other's opinions as to what is and isn't a
change for the better. However it should be totally playable and more balanced
than even the original game itself, at least up into the industrial age. The
late Ages are harder to test due to the lack of a Cheat Mode, but there are no
apparent problems.

PURPOSE OF THIS MOD:

The purpose of this mod is to alter Civ3 in ways that make it more balanced to
allow multiple valid strategys for victory, less frustrating, more historically
accurate, and just generally a whole lot more fun to play.

HOW YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE:

For this mod I utilize what I call the "Plutarck Community Process". If you can
convince the Plutarck Community (i.e. me) with an intelligent argument which
stands the test of reasonability and helps accomplish the above mentioned
purpose of this mod, then I will make the changes for the next version of this
mod and do my best to give you the credit for the idea/argument. I don't have
the best memory around, so tell me if I manage to forget to give credit where
credit is due.

HANDY DANDY LEGAL DISCLAIMER:

I, the creator of this mod, extend no form of warranty or guaranty pertaining to
this mod or any other existing or non-existing entity or non-entity in the
known, unknown, or non-known universe. While I do my best to ensure everything
is in a completely safe working order when it leaves my computer, I cannot
guaranty that it will work on your computer or that it will not have some odd
effect such as causing your hard drive to invade Poland and file for political
asylum in Switzerland. Everything is provided strictly AS IS, and is to be used
completely at your own risk. You know, alot like food stolen out of the back of
a truck. And of course, anything that happens is 100% "someone else's fault". If
something bad happens, feel free to blame God (or the ACLU and Libertarians,
should you be so inclined. Not like everyone else doesn't pick one of them to
blame anyway). Of course if something good happens it was all my doing, but I
believe you get the point.

FOR MODMAKERS:

If you would like to create your own mod and use the LWC mod as a "base" to
start from, feel free! The same goes for using changes/additions this mod makes.
However, I do ask only two things: that you credit the LWC mod and me and
mention in a prominate place (in the readme, preferably) your use of the LWC
mod, and if you're using the LWC mod as a base then please also list the version
number of the LWC mod you're using.

That's all I ask, and with that done you may use this mod freely.

REDISTRIBUTION:

You are free to distribute this mod in any way you please as long as you include
an unaltered version of this readme.txt with it and do not claim ownership or
authorship of the mod.

INSTALLATION:

Unzip the files into your Civilization III directory. The default is C:\Program
Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III, but if you choose another spot
then be sure to unzip it there. So long as you do not use PKUNZIP, which ignores
the paths set in the zip file. Any other unzipping program that uses the path
variable set in the zip file (such as WinZIP, WinRAR, WinACE, et al) will work
just fine.

If inside your Civilization III folder (or whatever you named it) you find a
folder named "LWC Mod", and in your Scenarios folder you find a .bic filed with
"LWC" in the name, then you've done it right.

UNINSTALLATION:

Reinstallation of Civ3 is the ideal way, and is entirely bug free. The LWC Mod
should not interfere with the normal Civ3 game (I think...), and if you don't
like it or want to use another mod you can just install that mod right on top of
the LWC Mod, and it should work just fine.

HOW TO UPDATE:

Visit the LWC homepage at: http://207.191.20.18/civ3/index.html

HOW TO PLAY:

Start Civ3 as you usually do and choose Load Scenario. Choose the LWC .bic file
(probably named LWC Mod.bic), and the rest is automatic.

Enjoy your game, and be sure to report and problems or suggestions either to the
thread mentioned at the top of this document or to aemuli@yahoo.com

CHANGELOG:

Please see the file changelog.txt to see what has changed since the writing of
this readme.

WHAT ACTUALLY CHANGES

Please see the file changes.txt for information on what the LWC mod changes.

The latest additions can be found in changelog.txt.

THAT'S ALL FOR NOW!

CREDITS:

Plutarck would like to thank all living and non-living entitys and non-entitys
which have in some way contributed to who he is today and thus allowed this mod
to be created in the first place. In short, he would like to thank the entirety
of the universe.

But slightly more specifically:

The makers of all the Civilization-type games, especially Sid Meier, Jeff
Briggs, and all the employees of Firaxis. (Plutarck of course does not thank
"Firaxis", because to thank a legal entity with no structure, form, or otherwise
real world existance which exists solely as a conception in the human mind would
be a bit stupid, wouldn't it? But the people who work for the legal entity with
no structure, form, or otherwise real world existance which exists solely as a
conception in the human mind DO deserve a "thanks for the great work so far".)

Himself.

Those small rubber stobbers on the bottom of various appliances that keeps the
surface they are on from getting scratched when you move the thing around.

Some people by "name" who Plutarck would like to give a special thanks for their
ideas, inspiration, or information (in random order):

Grallon, for his fantastic pioneering Civ3CopyTool. Without his work, my work
would not be possible.
"tuna"
Ben Vaughn
Grallon
T
Flynn
Kolyana, for graciously providing a home to the LWC files themselves.
Sevorak for letting me use the Cityname mod to added city/leader names.
Everyone else who's given ideas, feedback, and encouragement through the forums
and email.
